Rich and Creamy for Our Preemie: Coloring Book for NICU Families Receiving Donor Milk
We are proud to announce the publication of Rich and Creamy For Our Preemie, available in English and Spanish. Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast Director and Human Milk Banking Association of North America President Naomi Bar-Yam, Ph.D., worked with the team at Platypus Media to write the book. It is uniquely designed to support the siblings and parents of babies in the NICU as part of a broader effort to educate families on the importance of providing donor milk to premature babies.
Upon the book’s publication, Naomi said, “This story celebrates and promotes close knit families while educating young children on the importance of breastmilk. As the mother of four children myself, two of whom started their days in the NICU, I hope that it helps NICU parents and older siblings.”
November is National Prematurity Awareness Month, a time to promote understanding, raise funds for lifesaving research, and support legislation that improves care for mothers and babies. A portion of each Rich and Creamy sale will be donated to the Human Milk Banking Association of North America.
Roughly 10% of American babies are born prematurely. These fragile babies are cared for in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), often for days or months. Nutrition for such babies is paramount. Unfortunately, many are too small or weak to breastfeed and their mothers may not initially be able to produce enough milk. Pasteurized donor human milk is an important means of filling the gap.
The book can be ordered through Platypus Media.
