We’re Running The New York Marathon: Meet Our Team

Our New York City Marathon team

New York, New York . . .

This November marks another exciting first for Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast — our debut in the New York City Marathon! As a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable infants and their families, we’re honored to take part in this iconic event alongside so many other inspiring charities.

Today, we’re excited to introduce you to the incredible individuals running in support of our mission. Each team member brings a unique perspective and inspiration — shaped by personal experience, professional connection, or a desire to give back — but they are united by a shared belief in the importance of giving every baby the healthiest possible start. Now, they’re turning their miles into a force for good.

Meet the team, read their stories . . .

Name: Stephanie

Occupation: Healthcare professional

Why I run – in Stephanie’s words:

Running the New York City Marathon for Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast is deeply personal for me. As a former milk donor, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of their mission. I still proudly display my donor certificate from 2021 in my kitchen — a daily reminder that every act of kindness makes a difference.

When I was donating, the milk bank team supported me not just as a donor, but also as a mother. They offered guidance, reassurance, and a sense of community, which made my breastfeeding journey feel less isolating and more empowering.

I’ve seen how much care goes into every ounce of milk collected. I’ve also seen how seriously the milk bank takes the responsibility of delivering it to the babies who need it most. Now, I want to give back again—this time by running and fundraising. Every mile I run is for the babies, my fellow moms, and the incredible team that makes it all possible. Even my 6-year-old daughter is getting involved. Together, we’ve been making and selling friendship bracelets to raise money — it’s a full-family effort!

Name: Charlotte

Occupation: NICU nurse

Why I run – in Charlotte’s words:

As a NICU nurse and recent graduate of a neonatal nurse practitioner program, I’ve seen just how critical donor milk is for the babies I care for. Breast milk is an essential medical resource — especially for premature and medically fragile newborns. And I’m passionate about ensuring every baby has access to it.

I’ve worked with many families who want to give their babies breast milk but can’t — often for medical reasons. That’s where Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast comes in. They make it possible for these little ones to get the nutrition they need to grow stronger during such a vulnerable time.

Growing up in Connecticut, running the New York City Marathon has always been a dream of mine. Now, getting to do it in support of an organization that means so much to me makes it even more special.

Name: Phoebe

Occupation: Medical student

Why I run – in Phoebe’s words:

I’m thrilled to be running the New York City Marathon with Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast’s team. This brings together so many things I care deeply about: women’s health, infant care, equity, and community.

As a medical student working toward becoming an OB/GYN, I’m passionate about expanding access to prenatal and postpartum care — particularly for underserved populations. Through my studies, I’ve come to understand how crucial breast milk is for vulnerable infants. But I’ve also learned that many families face real barriers to accessing it, whether due to health challenges or systemic inequities. That’s why the milk bank’s mission — ensuring safe, equitable access to donor milk — resonates so strongly with me.

I also love to run. Last year, I completed the Boston Marathon to support youth access to team sports in urban schools. That experience strengthened my connection to my community. Now that I’ve moved to New York for med school, I’m excited to do the same here.
