A Preemie's Bill of Rights

Prematurity Awareness Month . . .

Did you know that November is Prematurity Awareness Month? With the vast majority of our milk going directly to hospitals (primarily NICUs) caring for premature and/or medically fragile babies, this particular cause is especially near and dear to our hearts. So, to close out this important month we’re sharing a special post from Read McCarty and Eileen Gay – A Preemie’s Bill of Rights.

Longtime friends of the milk bank, we’re incredibly thankful for the kindness and generosity Read and Eileen have not only shown us but the tiniest among us. Having dedicated their careers to advancing the standard of NICU care, we’re proud to share the below.

Inspired by tiny-but-mighty NICU warrior, Olivia, A Preemie’s Bill of Rights by Read McCarty . . .

When mom’s own milk is not available, donor milk is the next best option. In fact, for pre-term babies, human milk vastly reduces their risk of developing conditions like NEC – the most common cause of death in preemies after two week of age. When you support Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast you help more families bring more babies home. Thank you for being a hero.
